PAT BISHOP – A Person In Pan – Women in Pan

The late Pat Bishop, musical director of the Lydian Singers, will be remembered this weekend, as Republic Bank Exodus pays tribute to her at this year’s Steelband Music Festival, to be held at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah.

Before Bishop’s death, she had requested musical arranger, Pelham Goddard, to do a compilation of Maestro’s music for the festival, which at the time was scheduled to take place in 2011.  At the festival, bands will be required to play two selections: a Test Piece of Black Stalin’s “Mr Panmaker” and a tune of choice. Republic Bank Exodus will be playing an adaptation of the late Cecil Hume’s (The Maestro) composition, “Moods of the Maestro”; a classical genre. Both tunes were arranged by Goddard.

The bands’ conductor is Jesus Acosta Beltran Ruiz, a Venezuelan national, with whom the band has been working with for approximately ten years. Republic Bank Exodus currently holds three titles of National Music Festival winners and World Steelband Festival champs, twice in a row. Supporting Goddard and Ruiz is Major Edouard Wade with instruments blended by Herman Guppy and Wallace Austin.  The finals of the Festival will take place on November 16, at the Jean Pierre Complex, Port of Spain. Republic Bank takes this time to wish the band all the best at the Festival, as they take patrons down memory lane in remembrance of a musical icon.
