Commonly known as ‘CSI’ they look like a traditional steelband but their repertoire goes far beyond what is expected. CSI is made up of four core players who have been playing together for many years at venues all over the world and so consider themselves as experts at what they do. No event is too big or too small for CSI who love to perform. They do recordings, workshops, live performances etc. Their aim is to let the world know how versatile the steel pan really is and to continue to bring Trinidad’s national instrument to new audiences.
Michael ‘Chato’ Toussaint is the world first and only blind tenor pannist. He has travelled extensively through his performances and continues to teaching the art form in London schools where his pupils are amazed by his musical abilities. Jason Constantine who began playing at the age of twelve has built up extensive experience working as an arranger, conductor and teacher in Trinidad and London. He currently teaches the art form in schools.
Brent Holder has performed all over the World as a soloist and part of a band. Brent also teaches and has finds time to compose his won songs, three of which has led him to victory in various pan soloist competitions. Brent has arranged for numerous steelbands in Trinidad and the UK. Recently he arranged for Stardust in the UK Panorama and steered them to runners up position.
Sherwin Bernard aka ‘Bully’ started playing the drum set at the tender age of 5 and progressed to his school band then with some of Trinidad’s well known steel bands.
Bully migrated to England where he continued playing with England’s well renowned steel bands. He also enjoys playing with Brass bands and backing Soca Artistes from all over the Caribbean. CSI is managed by Mike Forbes who is an established Soca DJ and also plays on Roots 95.4 FM. CSI will continue to uncover many uncharted musical areas with their steel pan instruments keeping the culture and vision alive for the future. To contact CSI email them at csi@panpodium.com.
