Savile Row Tailor named in Queen’s New Year Honours.

Trinidad national Andrew Madan Ramroop was today named in Her Royal Highness New Years Honours for contribution to training in skills of Bespoke Tailoring and Fashion.

The New Year’s honours list which is released annually one minute after midnight on 31st December recognise achievement and distinction in many fields of endeavour.

The announcement read ‘Her Majesty is graciously pleased to appoint Madan Andrew Ramroop Officer of the Order of the British Empire’ (OBE).

Andrew Ramroop said of the announcement “I think I speak for all tailors the world over who would be proud today that one of their kind has been recognised by Her Majesty”. 

“I feel deeply honoured to be considered for such a prestigious title, one expects those achieving high academic attainment, political figures and industry moguls to be honoured but not me, a humble tailor”.

“I hope this recognition serves as an inspiration to those who aspires to enter into the tailoring trade”.

Andrew Ramroop represented the United Kingdom on three occasions at the World Congress of Master Tailors and is acknowledged as one of the finest tailors in the world today.

The early beginnings of this master tailor started at a tiny tailor’s shop on the foothills of Tunapuna where he was born.  His gift as a master tailor came to the attention of the BBC TV who featured a documentary on his professional career in 1998.

In 2001 Andrew Ramroop was conferred with the honourary title of Professor for Achievement and Distinction in the Field of Tailoring by the London Institute and in 2004 he was re-conferred with the title by the University of the Arts London.

He lectured at London College of Fashion for 12 years (1976 -1988).

Andrew Ramroop concept of the historical Savile Row Academy has been up and running successfully and if oversubscribed with aspiring tailors.

His company Maurice Sedwell Limited has tailored suits for clients in 54 countries.
 Andrew Ramroop is the first black man to own a tailor shop in Savile Row, the famous Street of world class tailors

In 2005 The Honourable President of Trinidad and Tobago honoured Andrew Madan Ramroop with the Chaconia Gold Medal (CMG). “The immense pride and joy I felt when the President pinned the Medal on my lapel was beyond my wildest imagination”. “It was the first time I had met the Hon. President and I was overwhelmed by the whole occasion.
