CHAIRMAN of Phase ll Pan Groove Steel Orchestra, Len “Boogsie” Sharpe was inducted as an honorary distinguished fellow of the University of Trinidad and Tobago.The “pan beating virtuoso” and ace arranger commonly referred to as 'The Mozart of Pan' was honoured with his doctorate of letters for his profound contribution to pan, Carnival and music on November 20.
In his address, Chancellor at UTT, President George Maxwell Richards, said new programmes would be launched in a year’s time in the fields of Biosciences, Agriculture and Food Technology, Fashion Industry, Performing Arts, Public Health Administration and Sport and Leisure. Professor Ken Julien delivered the "letters" at a reception following UTT’s third graduation ceremony at its O’Meara Campus in Arima. Artist Leroy Clarke and calypsonian Dr Hollis “Chalkdust” Liverpool were among the audience.
