Despers Reborn – Laventille steelband reclaims Panorama title after 16 years

After 16-year wait and with a new arranger leading them, Desperadoes Steel Orchestra at 2.55 a.m. yesterday captured their 11th National Panorama Championship (Large Conventional Band category).

Supporters of the band from the hills of Laventille rejoiced when the results were announced at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain.
Playing a Carlton “Zanda” Alexander arrangement of the soca “Different Me” written by Jovan James, produced by Nicholai Greene alongside Kyle “Novahh” Joseph and recorded by 5Star Akil, Despers scored 285 points, beating Supernovas Steel Orchestra into second place by one point.
