Ebony retains their UK Steelband Panorama Champion’s title in 2016.

On a fine summer’s evening in London  Steel band music brought the area around Ladbroke Grove /Kensal road to a standstill with the sweet strains of music filling the atmosphere and giving it a truly Caribbean ambience.

The bands were dotted along the ‘Drag’ on Kensal road that led to the stage at Horniman’s

Pleasance. Hundreds of pan musicians playing hundreds if not thousands of pan instruments having practiced for hundreds of hours was finally putting the finish touches to their musical renditions before their ten minutes of glory on stage.

Ebony Steel band trust retained their title with a Duvonne Stewart’s musically arranged rendition of Voice’s,‘Cheers to Life’ with 278 points. They were followed by Mangrove Steel band who played Andre White’s powerful rendition of 5Star Akil’s, ‘Different Me’ and attained 270 points to captured second place. In third place was Metronomes Steel Orchestra playing Anise ‘Halfers’ Hadeed’s arrangement of  5Star Akil’s, ‘Different Me’ which saw them awarded 266 points.  In fourth place was Real Steel from Plymouth. They musical rendition of ‘Nostalgia’ arranged by the young and talented Leroy Clarke saw them attained 260 points.

In fifth place with 257.5 points was Endurance playing Marlon Hibbert’s musical rendition of 5Star Akil’s, ‘Different Me’.  Marlon is one of the UK’s young arrangers to keep an eye on in the future.  Sixth place was awarded to London All Stars attaining 250 points with a Phil ‘Dbl’ Rollock’s musical rendition of ‘Soca Ruption’. This was Phil’s first year to arrange at this competition. Seventh place was awarded to Croydon Steel Orchestra with 239 points for their delivery of David Idajoula’s musical arrangements of 5Star Akil’s, ‘Different Me’.  David is another young and aspiring UK arranger to follow in the future. In eight place with 238 points was CSI playing Brent Holder’s musically arranged rendition of  Designer’s, ‘Pan By Storm’. Brent continues to inspire his young players to achieve.
