Improvements to Greens as party brands pull out of pan

Improved lighting, more security and extra parking are some of the improvements that have been made to the North Greens for this year’s Panorama semi-finals. The improvements came in response to complaints over the years from various groups, some of whom have opted out of the Greens over the last few years. Daniel Lambert, Chief Executive Officer of FCL, consultants to Pan Trinbago, told Loop there have been a number of improvements made to the North Greens including the provision of Wifi in an area called the Bacchanal Zone, an extra 3000 parking spaces, lighting and extra security guards.

He said unlike previous years, Pan Trinbago will provide groups with their tents earlier than usual as well as provide its own branded water to all groups which will be unveiled at a launch next week. The improvements may be too little too late for some groups which won’t have a presence on the Greens this year. Jules Sobion, the man behind popular party group Caesar’s Army, told Loop his posse won’t be returning to pan this year. Instead the Romans will be staging their own event called Bacchanal Road on the same day. “The first thing that had gone wrong is that after dark it just becomes a crime zone. With respect to the security component we felt threatened. And even outside of the compound it is scarier. We’ve always had incidents with members of the posse which we only hear about the day after,” he said.

“I think the icing  on the cake was the cost, they making it ridiculous. All the posses did it for brand awareness by being involved in the pan semis but when you have to pay $350 and you trying to provide a package for your posse, free drinks and food which might be $300 the overall cost is $700. That is an all-inclusive price. That is a turn off,” he said. Stefan Monteil, one of the bandleaders of YUMA, said his group went to the North Stand last year but won’t be at pan at all this year. He too, cited the cost of tickets as an issue for his young demographic.
