Mayor: We ought to be proud of it

POINT Fortin Mayor Clyde Paul has called on Point Fortin residents to capitalise on the financial opportunities during this year’s Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations.  Mayor Paul made the statement during the launch of the celebrations on Saturday at Victor Chin Kit Park in Point Fortin. “People of Point (Fortin), take the opportunity you get to make money. This (celebration) is the envy of Trinidad and Tobago. This is a thing that we started for you all to make your money here,” said the mayor.

“This year your Government is not giving us the funding that we want so it will be scaled down. Look at the opportunity that is before you, grasp the opportunity to make money and let peace prevail.”  Paul also said he did not want another murder to mar the event. Last year, on May 4, Dwayne Jackson, of Arouca, was shot dead at Adventure Road, Point Fortin, while working as a bouncer in a Jouvert band during Borough Day celebrations.

In 2010, Bertrand Charles, of New Village, Point Fortin, died after he was stabbed in his neck with a bottle by a man with whom he had an altercation. “It must not happen again,” urged Paul. “People of Point Fortin, be very aware of the people around you, be aware of those you invite to come here and celebrate with you.”
