Miss TT plays steelpan

Miss Trinidad and Tobago representative to Miss World Sherrece Villafana is in Indonesia and set to show off her skills within the next couple days as a pannist in an effort to show how skillful she is for the talent component of the Miss World pageant which is to be held on September 28.

Newsday columnist ATHALIAH SAMUEL is in Indonesia. She reports:

‘I owe so much to Daniel Seebaran and Michael Raghunanan. Had it not been for them I would not be where I am today. They believed in me, supported me and encouraged me throughout my journey as Miss World Trinidad and Tobago 2012 and now, in my new role as National Director for Miss World for Trinidad and Tobago, they are still right there beside me, pushing me and guiding me. They were, in fact, very instrumental in my acquisition of this franchise and had it not been for Daniel, Sherrece Villafana might never have been selected as this country’s representative. He actually discovered Miss TT through the internet and encouraged her to attend the screening. If we end our title drought this year and return with the crown, it would be as much because of Daniel and Michael as it would be because of Sherrece’s brilliance, warmth and charm and the hard work of my “A Team”.

I am writing this from my hotel room in Bali, Indonesia, and I am saying thank you because I am now standing where they stood a year ago and I can appreciate the tremendous amount of pressure they must have felt trying to prepare me for my role as a cultural ambassador for my country. It is tough work-thankless work involving intense focus, sacrifice and countless hours without sleep. But, hard work and perseverance pay off in the end and my presence here in Indonesia is proof of that.
