Pete the Panstick Interactive Educational Software For App Stores and Pilot Project

PETE the Panstick (PETE), an indigenous animated Steelpan instructor, is a registered trade mark of Sanch Electronix. The software application facilitates tactile self-instruction for enthusiasts and expedites cost-effective delivery of Steelpan education in blended classroom environments. PETE also supports social entrepreneurship initiatives such as online mentorship and personalised tuition, to be facilitated by members of the UWI Alumni Association, Trinidad & Tobago Chapter (UWIAATT).

PETE introduces learners to important aspects of Steelpan history and development. The interface is replete with musical examples, scores, definitions and other aids to a large number of genres, including Calypso, Chutney and Soca. Sanch, by using resources it has already developed, is eager to offer Virtual Steelpan Education in secondary schools throughout Trinidad & Tobago using a Learning Management System (LMS). Sanch also wishes to engage the Caribbean, its Diaspora and the global community.

A LMS can facilitate rapid expansion of national mastery in playing, composing, managing and promoting the business development of Trinidad & Tobago’s national musical instrument. It can also assist the Steelpan to become more internationally recognised as a mainstream vehicle for education, entertainment, relaxation and rehabilitation while creating new, sustainable avenues for employment in the fledgling Steelpan industry through this cultural innovation.

The cost of the App is USD $9.99, everybody’s affordable price in the Microsoft app store. A full subscription service, inclusive of upgrades is forthcoming. Customers who purchase the App beforehand will be automatically tagged to this service. The App will subsequently be placed in the Android and Apple stores.  Please click here to enter the store via a link to the App.

Telecommunications Services of Trinidad & Tobago, TSTT, the only state-owned local communication provider, is investing in PETE through a pilot programme involving ten schools and four community-based steelbands. Furthermore, the UWI Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (GSB) is committed to undertaking socio-economic impact assessment studies of this stimulating initiative.
