Phase Two wins Panorama, again

Petrotrin Phase Two Pan Groove successfully defended its national pan title in the Large Band category when it emerged victorious at the 2014 National Panorama final at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain, on Saturday. On an evening when the “Savannah” was transformed into a musical arena, the Woodbrook-based band, performing in tenth position, gave a scintillating rendition of its Len “Boogsie” Sharpe arrangement “Jump High” to amass 287 points, one more than the 286 gained by Trinidad All Stars.

All Stars’ “Excitement” by arranger Leon “Smoot” Edwards was indeed exciting but they narrowly failed to get the nod of the judges in their attempt to wrest the title away from Phase Two.

Bp Renegades made it a very close contest with an eye-catching performance of “In De Minor’ as arranged by Duvone Stewart. However, the 283 points it was awarded was only good enough for third place. All eleven finalists gave good accounts of themselves as patrons were treated to offerings full of pulsating rhythms with varying syncopations, smooth transitions between the highs and lows, and sweet and harmonious melodies
