Silver Stars celebrate 65 years

PCS Nitrogen Silver Stars Steel Orchestra celebrated its 65th Anniversary in fine style at its spanking Tragarete Road panyard in Newtown on Saturday night. The all-inclusive event offered patrons chicken pelau, bbq ribs, drum sticks, mini bake and shark, coo-coo and callaloo, corn soup, geera pork, fruit kebabs, cheesecake and Häagen-dazs ice cream.

While patrons feasted on the goodies, a cast of seasoned artistes including former National Calypso Monarch and multiple times calypso queen Denyse Plummer, reigning Soca Monarch and Road March champ SuperBlue (Austin Lyons), and former Soca Monarch Ronnie Mc Intosh entertained them.  Celebrants of the night, Silver Stars, gave patrons two fine sets of music as well.

After enjoying deejay music from 8 pm to 9 pm ,the band came on for its fist stint on the stage and began with “Amour”, then continued with “Bad” and “I Will Survive” with synchronised moves from the moko jumbies. They followed this up with “Hello”, “Ghost Riders” and “Phantom of the Opera”, the latter, though expertly delivered, seemed misplaced in the lime, but nevertheless the band closed with a lovely medley that comprised “Killing Me Softly”, “Every Breath You Take”, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and “Help Me Make It Through The Night”. After keeping festivities at bay with the playing of “One Moment In Time” the band closed its first set with its 2013 panorama selection “Shock Attack”.
