Young acts take to the stage at school’s music festival

A High Wycombe school which supports students with learning difficulties welcomed pupils from across the town to join in its annual summer music festival last week. Pupils from Kite Ridge School, in Verney Avenue, joined together with students from across Wycombe for the two-day Kite Fest celebrations from Wednesday, June 28.

Organiser and senior learning mentor, Bev Warner, hailed the “beautiful” event a success as hundreds of visitors were welcomed through the school’s doors over the course of the festival. Performances included a street dance act and workshop by Lewis Haywood and a variety of musical acts including the Cressex School steel band.

Ms Warner said: “It was fantastic – it’s our biggest event we have ever done. On Wednesday we had 120 people including our students – we only have 10 – and on Thursday we had close to 150. “We hold Kite Fest every year as a way to bring schools in the area together to perform and enjoy music. “It is very emotional to see so many students from all walks of life having an amazing time.” Kite Fest will return for the seventh year running on June 27 and 28 next year.
