Southside Harmonics is a renowned Steel Orchestra that was established in 1979 under its former name Lambeth Youth Community Steelband. It was formed as a platform for young people in south London to continue developing their musical skills beyond school. They are a dynamic Lambeth-based organization dedicated to the vibrant world of steelpan music and community engagement. For over four decades, they have been a driving force in Lambeth and its surrounding areas, providing a platform for both young & mature talents fostering a deep appreciation for music within the community.

Their passionate musicians have shared their captivating performances at numerous local events, festivals, and prestigious venues. From lively street parades to grand concerts & carnivals, spreading joy by bringing the infectious rhythms of steelpan music to create memorable experiences for all.

 Beyond their musical endeavours, they actively engage in community work, collaborating with local organizations and initiatives to make a positive impact using music as a catalyst for social change, promoting unity, diversity, and inclusivity.

Over the years, Southside Harmonics has become one of Europe's premier Steel Orchestras, offering weekly music and arts sessions to both young people and adults in the community.  The organization has also been involved in workshops, classes, and sensory games for children with disabilities, including Asperger's syndrome, autism, ADHD, behavioural issues, and other disabilities.

Southside Youth

The orchestra has achieved success in Notting Hill's "The Best Steelband on the Road" competition, winning several times. They have performed 24 times at the UK National Panorama and are regular participants in the Carnival, one of the world's largest street festivals.

Their Panorama band will be made up of seventy five players.

There are seven steelbands vying for the title this year, Ebony – the reigning champions, Mangrove, Metronomes, CSO, Pan Nation, Real Steel and Southside Harmonics. 

The event is hosted by NHC/BAS, and will be held on the 26th August 2023 at the Emslie Horiman’s Pleasance Park, Kensal Road, London W10 5EG.

The gates open at 4:00p.m. and the event ends at 12:00 a.m.
